Preparing your landscape for fall is essential for ensuring a healthy & beautiful yard come spring. Wondering what you should be doing this September? Here’s a checklist of practical landscaping advice for transitioning into fall.

CLEAN UP THE YARD

  • Compost or mulch fall leaves

  • Trim dead or diseased branches

  • Remove weeds to prevent them from seeding and spreading over winter.

FEED THE LAWN

  • Fertilize with slow-release nitrogen-rich fertilizer

  • Overseed thin patches

  • Aerate the soil 

PLANT FOR SPRING

  • Plant bulbs like tulips & daffodils

  • Divide perennials like hostas, daylilies and dahlias to prevent overcrowding

MULCH & PROJECT

  • Add fresh mulch to insulate roots and suppress weeds

  • Water trees and shrubs deeply

  • Wrap young trees to protect against frost
