Time to Test Your Soil!
Before adding anything to your soil this spring, it’s important to know what you’re starting with. A soil test is the most reliable way to understand your soil’s pH, nutrient levels, and exactly what amendments are needed for healthy plant growth. Soil needs and conditions can vary widely so testing helps you avoid unnecessary lime or fertilizer applications that can do more harm than good. Samples can be submitted year-round, but early spring is ideal so you have results before planting. In North Carolina, soil testing is free from April through November at the Durham Extension office.
